Wildlife Pond re-build

The Brief

To remove a small overgrown wildlife pool and design a larger lagoon shaped pool to maximise the available space and integrate with the existing garden better than before. All for a fellow nature lover who wanted to re-home some frogs in the process!

The Concept

This small pool took over two tonnes of stone for us to achieve the desired look. It has a lovely irregular shape now and has built in rocky pockets for the aquatic marginal plants to grow and spread in. These pockets are designed to keep the balance of a natural mature look without losing the distinct shape and outline of the pool.

Creating a safe space for wildlife to visit required gentle sloped beaches in the design and we used dry stone methods of building to ensure the water would be instantly safe to re home the wildlife we saved prior to the re-build.A great time of year to be planting this one up. There’s the instant impact of the Primulas, Cowslips and Pulmonaria, with Hostas and Astilbes to come up in the coming months. The backdrop of Amelanchier, Dog Woods, Cotinus and Lilacs are going to look fantastic over the coming season.

A pleasure to build and a must have for any true nature lover, thanks again J!
