Natural Pond and Rustic Patios

The Brief

To transform a blank green space into a relaxing water garden with multiple seating areas, designed with a rustic style to keep in theme with a converted barn.

The Concept

Once the existing turf had been removed, we had a blank canvas to design the wildlife pond which would be the focal point of the garden, no moving water in this design just a very tranquil feel to enjoy being close to the water when sitting on either patio.

The main red sandstone patio was built using reclaimed stone in keeping with the style of the converted barn and to fit in with the surroundings. It looks fantastic in this country setting, and the finished effect of being able to sit beside the beach which slopes down into the pond is exactly what we were after. A smaller mosaic patio overhangs the deeper end of the pool and is a great space for a couple of people to make the most of the later sun.

A seasonal planting scheme sweeps along the existing wall and gives a new backdrop to the garden and takes away the harshness of the brick wall. With different light and moisture conditions throughout this space we had the chance to include a variety of shrubs and perennials, it’s going to be great watching the scheme mature in its new surroundings.
